The classic affordable upgrade from an 18-55mm kit zoom - a constant f/2.8 gives two stops more light for indoor, event and low-light work, and much better subject separation. VC stabilisation helps with static subjects in low light. As a Di II lens it is designed for APS-C bodies only and will vignette heavily on full frame.
Frequently asked questions
Will this work on a full-frame Nikon?
Not properly. Di II lenses project an image circle sized for APS-C, so on an FX body you would get heavy vignetting or the camera would crop to DX mode, losing most of its resolution.
Does it autofocus on entry-level Nikon bodies?
Yes - this version has its own built-in autofocus motor, so it focuses on bodies without an in-body AF motor such as the D3xxx and D5xxx series.
