About Memory Cards & Card Readers
We stock SD and microSD cards for most cameras, CompactFlash for older DSLRs, and card readers for getting photos onto your computer. Capacity decides how many photos fit; the speed class decides whether the card keeps up with burst shooting and video.
For 4K video choose a card marked V30 or U3, which guarantees at least 30MB/s when writing. For stills on most cameras a U1 or V10 card is enough. If in doubt, tell us your camera and we will point you to the right card.
Not sure what fits your kit? Call us on 01423 538138, email sales@bassandbligh.com, or bring your camera into the shop in Harrogate, open Monday to Saturday, 9:30am to 5pm.
Frequently asked questions
What do U1, U3, V10 and V30 mean?
They are minimum sustained write speeds. U1 and V10 guarantee 10MB/s, U3 and V30 guarantee 30MB/s. 4K video generally needs U3 or V30.
How big a memory card do I need?
For most stills photographers a 64GB card holds thousands of photos. Video and high-resolution cameras fill cards faster, so 128GB or more is sensible there.
Should I use one big card or several smaller ones?
Many photographers carry two or more cards so one fault or loss does not lose a whole trip. It is personal preference.
