Best for
Remarkable reach for the size - 600mm equivalent in a lens you can carry in a jacket pocket, which no other system matches. Ideal for casual wildlife, birds, air shows and safari where a large telephoto is impractical. The trade is a slow aperture: it needs good light, and it relies on the body's stabilisation, so it pairs best with an IBIS-equipped Olympus/OM System or Panasonic body.
Frequently asked questions
Is f/6.7 at the long end too slow?
In bright daylight it is fine, and modern sensors handle the higher ISO you may need. In woodland, at dusk or for fast-moving subjects in poor light it becomes limiting. If you regularly shoot wildlife in low light, the 100-400mm or the 300mm f/4 PRO are the brighter options.
Does it have stabilisation built in?
No. It depends on in-body stabilisation, which nearly all Olympus/OM System and most recent Panasonic bodies have. On a body without IBIS you would need fast shutter speeds or a support.
