The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8 is the classic short-telephoto portrait prime for Micro Four Thirds - 90mm equivalent, f/1.8 maximum aperture, and very light at around 116g.

Best for
Widely regarded as one of the best-value primes in any system - sharp wide open, with flattering compression and background blur at the classic 90mm-equivalent portrait length. Tiny and light enough to carry permanently. Not weather-sealed and the plastic mount is basic, but optically it punches far above its price.
Frequently asked questions
Is 45mm the right length for portraits on Micro Four Thirds?
Yes - it gives a 90mm equivalent field of view, which is the traditional portrait range. It flatters facial proportions and lets you work at a comfortable distance. Indoors in a small room you may find it tight, in which case the 25mm f/1.8 is more flexible.
How much better is the 45mm f/1.2 PRO?
The PRO is weather-sealed, brighter, and renders out-of-focus areas more smoothly - but it costs several times as much and weighs around four times more. For most people the f/1.8 delivers the great majority of the result.
