At a glance: The Urth 37mm Circular Polariser cuts glare and reflections from water, glass and foliage, and deepens colour, on lenses with a 37mm thread.

About this accessory

The Urth 37mm Circular Polariser is a rotating CPL filter in Urth's Standard tier. It uses Japanese AGC optical glass with a multi-layer nano-coating in an ultra-slim aluminium frame, and screws onto lenses with a 37mm filter thread.

It suits shooters who want a polariser without paying for the higher tiers. Because it is circular, autofocus and metering work normally, and some exposure compensation through shutter or ISO is needed as it absorbs light. Plus+ and Pro are the upgrades.

Best for

A practical first polariser for hillwalkers and outdoor photographers who want deeper colour and less glare. It works on still and moving subjects. A 37mm thread is a small one, so check the ø mark on your lens to be sure.

Frequently asked questions

Will the 37mm Circular Polariser fit my lens?

It fits lenses with a 37mm front filter thread. Check the ø figure marked on the front of your lens or on its cap. A lens marked ø37 takes this filter directly, and the lens manual lists the thread size too.

How do I get the best effect from a CPL?

Screw it on, then rotate the front ring while looking through the viewfinder or at the screen until reflections fade or the sky deepens. The effect is strongest at roughly 90 degrees to the sun.

How much light does a polariser lose?

A polariser absorbs some light, so expect a slower shutter speed or higher ISO. Cameras with through-the-lens metering will usually adjust for you.

Does a 37mm filter work on a small or compact lens?

This size is made for lenses with a small 37mm front thread. The ultra-slim frame keeps the added length down, which matters on compact lenses.

  • A proper little treasure trove

3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
