A compact, lightweight autofocus wide-angle prime for the Nikon F mount, the AF Nikkor 28mm f/2.8D makes a natural light everyday 28mm for full-frame bodies. It is a screw-drive (AF-D) design, so it relies on the camera body's built-in focus motor rather than an in-lens motor.

It suits anyone wanting a light, walk-around wide angle for street, landscape and general everyday shooting on full-frame Nikon bodies. Important compatibility note: as a screw-drive AF-D lens it autofocuses only on Nikon DSLRs that have a built-in focus motor (for example the D7x00, D8xx and D500 series), and is manual-focus-only on motor-less bodies such as the D3xxx and D5xxx. On APS-C DX cameras the field of view is roughly equivalent to a 42mm lens, and on Nikon Z mirrorless bodies via the FTZ adapter it works as manual focus only.

No. Those bodies have no built-in focus motor, so this screw-drive AF-D lens is manual focus only on them, though it still mounts and meters normally.
