At a glance: A Standard-tier circular polariser for 52mm lens threads, with Japanese AGC glass and a multi-layer coating, for deeper skies and less surface glare.

About this accessory

The Urth 52mm Circular Polariser is a rotating CPL filter in Urth's Standard tier. It uses Japanese AGC optical glass with a multi-layer nano-coating in an ultra-slim aluminium frame, and screws onto lenses with a 52mm filter thread.

It suits shooters who want a polariser without paying for the higher tiers. Because it is circular, autofocus and metering work normally, and some exposure compensation through shutter or ISO is needed as it absorbs light. Plus+ and Pro are the upgrades.

Best for

A practical first polariser for hillwalkers and outdoor photographers who want deeper colour and less glare. It works on still and moving subjects. Check your lens for a 52mm thread before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the right filter for a 52mm lens thread?

Any lens with a 52mm front thread will take it. Your lens will have its filter thread printed on the barrel or cap, shown as ø followed by millimetres. 52mm means this one fits without any adapters.

How do I use a circular polariser?

Fit it to the lens and turn the outer ring until you see the glare drop. It works best when the camera is pointing across the sun, not directly into or away from it.

Does a circular polariser need exposure compensation?

A polariser absorbs some light, so expect a slower shutter speed or higher ISO. Cameras with through-the-lens metering will usually adjust for you.

What is the difference between circular and linear polarisers?

Circular polarisers are designed to work with autofocus and metering systems on modern digital cameras, which is why this one is the usual choice. Linear types can confuse some camera systems.

  • A proper little treasure trove

3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
