At a glance: The Zeiss Secacam 5 Wide-Angle is a compact 4G trail camera with a 100 degree lens and close focus from about 35 cm, supplied with SD card and SIM fitted.

About this camera

The Zeiss Secacam 5 Wide-Angle has the same compact 320 g body as the Secacam 5, but a 100 degree wide-angle lens instead of 60 degrees. It takes 5MP photos (up to 12MP interpolated), sends 1920 x 1440 images over 4G to the Zeiss Secacam app, and focuses sharply from about 35 cm.

It records to an SD card, not internal memory, and a 32GB card is pre-installed along with the batteries and multi-roaming SIM. Zeiss lists no roaming fees in 35 countries including the UK. The app service plan is separate from the camera price. Choose the Wide-Angle over the standard Secacam 5 when you want to cover a broad area at close range, or watch a nest box or feeding station from short distance.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Secacam 5 and the Secacam 5 Wide-Angle?

The body, 5MP sensor and 4G are the same. The Wide-Angle has a 100 degree field of view and sharp close focus from about 35 cm, while the standard Secacam 5 has a 60 degree field of view.

Does the Secacam 5 Wide-Angle need an SD card?

It uses an SD card, and a 32GB card is already installed, so you can use it straight away.

Do I need a subscription for the Zeiss Secacam 5 Wide-Angle?

The camera sends photos and video through the Zeiss Secacam app, and the app service plan is separate from the price of the camera. Check the current plan options on the Zeiss site before you buy so you know the running cost.

Is it good for nest boxes?

The close focus from about 35 cm and the wide view suit nest boxes and feeding stations. Mount it close and check the framing on the app after set-up.

  • A proper little treasure trove

3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
