Best for
A collectable fast fifty for film SLR users and for mirrorless shooters adapting vintage glass. At f/1.2 it is soft and glowing with strong character; stopped down to f/2.8-f/5.6 it sharpens up considerably. Popular for portraits and low-light film work where the look matters more than clinical correction.
Frequently asked questions
Will this fit a Minolta or Sony autofocus camera?
No. This is the manual-focus SR mount (sometimes called MC/MD), which is not the same as Minolta's later autofocus A-mount used by Sony DSLRs. It adapts very easily to mirrorless cameras, but there is no adapter that lets it work properly on an A-mount body.
Is it sharp wide open at f/1.2?
Not by modern standards - expect noticeably soft, low-contrast results with glow around highlights at f/1.2. That look is much of the appeal. By f/2.8 it is sharp across most of the frame.
