At a glance: A Pro-tier UV filter for lenses with a 77mm thread: tempered AERO-C10 glass, stated 99.28% transmission and reflectance under 0.15%.

About this accessory

For a lens with a 77mm thread, the Urth UV Filter Pro uses tempered AERO-C10 glass and a 34-layer dual-side nano-coating. Urth describes the frame as aerospace-grade, warp-resistant aluminium, and the filter carries a lifetime warranty.

The step up from Plus+ is tempered glass and a denser 34-layer coating, so it suits photographers who prioritise toughness and flare control. It stays clear, so there is no exposure change. Urth backs it with a lifetime warranty.

Best for

A good match for expensive lenses used in rough conditions, from coastal storms to dusty trails. A 77mm thread belongs to a larger lens, so check yours first. It also suits wide lenses, thanks to the slim frame.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the right filter for a 77mm lens thread?

It fits lenses with a 77mm front filter thread. The thread size is printed on the lens, usually as ø77 on the front rim or on the inside of the lens cap. The number is the filter thread, not the focal length.

Is the Pro UV filter really stronger than normal glass?

AERO-C10 is the ionically tempered glass Urth uses in its Pro tier, and Urth states it is 600% stronger than standard glass. That figure is Urth's own claim, and no filter makes a lens impact-proof.

Do I need exposure compensation with the Pro UV filter?

No. Urth states 99.28% light transmission, so it behaves as a clear filter and your normal exposure settings apply.

Can I use the 77mm size on smaller lenses?

Yes. A step-up ring from the smaller lens thread to 77mm lets you share one larger filter across several lenses, which is often cheaper than buying one filter per lens. Wide-angle lenses may show vignetting with a ring fitted.

  • A proper little treasure trove

3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
