At a glance: The Urth 55mm Circular Polariser cuts glare and reflections from water, glass and foliage, and deepens colour, on lenses with a 55mm thread.
About this accessory
The Urth 55mm Circular Polariser is a rotating CPL filter in Urth's Standard tier. It uses Japanese AGC optical glass with a multi-layer nano-coating in an ultra-slim aluminium frame, and screws onto lenses with a 55mm filter thread.
Use it to cut the sheen off wet leaves, water and glass, or to darken a blue sky. It takes some light, so expect to open up or slow down. Standard is the entry tier, and Plus+ and Pro bring SCHOTT B270 glass and denser coatings.

Works with
- Lenses with a 55mm filter thread
Best for
Suited to coastal and countryside photographers, as well as architecture shooters cutting reflections from windows. It also suits video shooters who want to tame reflections in bright light. Check the ø mark on your lens to confirm the 55mm thread first.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the right filter for a 55mm lens thread?
It suits lenses with a 55mm filter thread, regardless of brand. The thread size is printed on the lens, usually as ø55 on the front rim or on the inside of the lens cap. The number is the filter thread, not the focal length.
How do I get the best effect from a CPL?
Screw it on, then rotate the front ring while looking through the viewfinder or at the screen until reflections fade or the sky deepens. The effect is strongest at roughly 90 degrees to the sun.
How much light does a polariser lose?
A polariser absorbs some light, so expect a slower shutter speed or higher ISO. Cameras with through-the-lens metering will usually adjust for you.
Can one 55mm filter be shared between lenses?
If your other lenses have smaller threads, an inexpensive step-up ring up to 55mm lets you reuse this filter. Check wide-angle shots for dark corners when using a ring.
Why buy from Bass & Bligh
Bought from a real shop, not a warehouse.

George P.Ordered a lens onlineA proper little treasure trove
3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
