At a glance: The Urth 43mm UV Filter is a clear protective filter for lenses with a 43mm thread, made with Japanese AGC glass and covered by a lifetime warranty.

About this accessory

For lenses with a 43mm thread, the Urth UV Filter Standard gives you a clear, lightweight cover for the front element. The glass is Japanese AGC optical glass with a multi-layer nano-coating, held in a slim warp-resistant aluminium frame.

It does one job: take the knocks and smears instead of your lens glass. A clear UV filter needs no change to your exposure settings. If you want a harder-working coating, Urth's Plus+ tier uses SCHOTT B270 glass and 30 layers, and the Pro tier uses tempered AERO-C10 glass.

Best for

Good for walkers, travellers and casual shooters who want to protect a lens with a 43mm thread without spending much. Fit it once and forget it, or use it as a spare for a second lens of the same thread.

Frequently asked questions

What lenses take the 43mm UV Filter?

Any lens with a 43mm front thread will take it. Look for the diameter symbol (ø) followed by a number on the front of the lens barrel or inside the lens cap. If it reads 43, this filter screws straight on.

Is a UV filter worth fitting to a modern lens?

Not for image quality, as digital sensors are far less sensitive to UV than film. Most people fit a clear UV filter as a cheap, replaceable guard against scratches, dust and fingerprints on the front element.

Do I need to adjust exposure with this filter?

No exposure compensation is needed. It is a clear filter, so your normal metering and settings carry on as before.

How does the Standard tier differ from Plus+ and Pro?

Standard uses Japanese AGC optical glass with a multi-layer coating. Plus+ moves to SCHOTT B270 glass with a 30-layer dual-side coating, and Pro uses tempered AERO-C10 glass with a 34-layer coating.

  • A proper little treasure trove

3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
