At a glance: Urth's 43mm circular polariser removes reflections from non-metallic surfaces and boosts contrast, with a slim aluminium frame and lifetime warranty.

About this accessory

Urth's Standard CPL in 43mm is a circular polarising filter made with Japanese AGC glass. A multi-layer coating helps clarity, and the ultra-slim aluminium ring carries a lifetime warranty.

Rotating the ring changes the effect, and it is most noticeable when the camera points across the sun rather than towards or away from it. Being circular, it works with autofocus and metering on modern cameras. Expect to lose some light, so slower shutter speeds follow.

Works with

  • Lenses with a 43mm filter thread

Best for

Useful for anyone photographing water, glass or foliage, and for travellers wanting richer skies. A 43mm thread is a small one, so check the ø mark on your lens to be sure.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the right filter for a 43mm lens thread?

It suits lenses with a 43mm filter thread, regardless of brand. Check the ø figure marked on the front of your lens or on its cap. A lens marked ø43 takes this filter directly, and the lens manual lists the thread size too.

How do I get the best effect from a CPL?

Screw it on, then rotate the front ring while looking through the viewfinder or at the screen until reflections fade or the sky deepens. The effect is strongest at roughly 90 degrees to the sun.

How much light does a polariser lose?

A polariser absorbs some light, so expect a slower shutter speed or higher ISO. Cameras with through-the-lens metering will usually adjust for you.

Can I use a 43mm filter on a lens with a smaller thread?

Yes, with a step-up ring from your lens's thread size to 43mm. It lets one filter serve more than one lens, though a ring adds a little length and can cause vignetting on wide-angle lenses.

  • A proper little treasure trove

3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
