At a glance: The Urth 39mm Circular Polariser cuts glare and reflections from water, glass and foliage, and deepens colour, on lenses with a 39mm thread.

About this accessory

For 39mm lens threads, this Urth polariser deepens colour and lifts contrast in landscapes and architecture. Japanese AGC glass keeps tones natural, and the frame is designed to avoid vignetting.

Rotating the ring changes the effect, and it is most noticeable when the camera points across the sun rather than towards or away from it. Being circular, it works with autofocus and metering on modern cameras. Expect to lose some light, so slower shutter speeds follow.

Best for

Suited to coastal and countryside photographers, as well as architecture shooters cutting reflections from windows. It also suits video shooters who want to tame reflections in bright light. Check the ø mark on your lens to confirm the 39mm thread first.

Frequently asked questions

What lenses take the 39mm Circular Polariser?

It fits any lens with a 39mm filter thread, whatever the make or mount. The thread size is printed on the lens, usually as ø39 on the front rim or on the inside of the lens cap. The number is the filter thread, not the focal length.

How do I use a circular polariser?

Fit it to the lens and turn the outer ring until you see the glare drop. It works best when the camera is pointing across the sun, not directly into or away from it.

Does a circular polariser need exposure compensation?

A polariser absorbs some light, so expect a slower shutter speed or higher ISO. Cameras with through-the-lens metering will usually adjust for you.

What is the difference between circular and linear polarisers?

Circular polarisers are designed to work with autofocus and metering systems on modern digital cameras, which is why this one is the usual choice. Linear types can confuse some camera systems.

  • A proper little treasure trove

3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
