The Nikon AF 28mm f/2.8D is a classic wide-angle prime in Nikon's long-running D-series line. Originally released in 1994 and still produced for decades, this lens offers a genuinely compact, lightweight package — a practical walk-around wide on full-frame Nikon bodies, or a 42mm equivalent on DX crop cameras.

The mechanical aperture ring and screw-drive autofocus mean it pairs particularly well with film SLRs and older/professional Nikon DSLR bodies (D7xxx and D8xx series, pro bodies). Not recommended for entry-level DSLRs (D3xxx, D5xxx) which lack the in-body AF motor — the lens will be manual-focus only on those bodies.

Will it autofocus on entry-level Nikon DSLRs (D3xxx / D5xxx)?
No. This lens uses screw-drive autofocus and requires a Nikon body with an in-body AF motor (D7xxx, D8xx or pro bodies, or older film SLRs). On entry-level bodies it can be used in manual focus only.
