A vintage Sigma Filtermatic 24mm - the Filtermatic designation refers to Sigma's built-in rear filter system on some of their wide-angle lenses (rear-mounted filters are useful on ultra-wides where front filters would vignette or be impractical). Canon FD mount for Canon film SLRs; adapts to modern mirrorless via FD adapters.
Frequently asked questions
What's a rear filter holder good for?
On ultra-wide lenses, front-mounted filters can cause vignetting or mechanical interference with the lens hood. A rear filter holder lets you drop in gelatin or glass filters behind the rear lens element, avoiding those issues. Less common on modern lenses but useful on vintage wides.
