At a glance: The B+W Basic UV-Haze filter (010) in 49mm thread is a colour-neutral protective filter with a multi-resistant coating, made in Germany.

About this accessory

The B+W 49mm Basic UV-Haze filter is a clear, colour-neutral filter with an MRC (multi-resistant) coating from the Basic line. It cuts the UV part of daylight and is most often left on the lens permanently as front-element protection against dust, fingerprints and splashes. It is made in Germany by B+W (Schneider-Kreuznach).

The coating reduces reflections and makes the surface easier to clean. The filter has no filter factor, so you do not need to adjust exposure when you fit it. Choose it as an affordable, well-known protective filter for any lens with a 49mm filter thread. Check the thread size before ordering, as the filter only fits lenses of that diameter.

Best for

Frequently asked questions

Will a 49mm filter fit my lens?

Check the filter thread size marked on the lens barrel or inside the lens cap, shown with the diameter symbol followed by a number. If it reads 49, this filter fits. Our Harrogate shop can check for you.

Do I need to adjust exposure with a UV filter?

No. This filter has no filter factor, so no exposure compensation is needed.

Should I leave a UV filter on all the time?

Many photographers do, because it protects the front element from dust, fingerprints and splashes. It is a matter of preference, and you can remove it if you want to fit other filters.

What does MRC mean?

MRC stands for multi-resistant coating. B+W uses it to reduce reflections and make the glass easier to clean.

  • A proper little treasure trove

3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
