Best for
A classic compact light meter - the L-308 series has been a photographer's companion for years, particularly for film shooters and studio photographers. Incident metering (hold meter at subject, aim back at camera) is more accurate than in-camera reflective metering for difficult lighting (back-lit subjects, white-on-white scenes). Flash mode reads studio strobes.

Why use an external meter when cameras have built-in meters?
Incident metering (external meter at the subject) is more accurate than reflective metering (camera meter reading from camera position) for scenes with unusual tones - white subjects, black subjects, backlit scenes. Flash meters can measure studio strobe exposure directly. For critical work, an external meter pays for itself quickly.
