For birds and wildlife this is the reason to own a Micro Four Thirds system - 600mm-equivalent reach, handholdable, and extendable to 840mm with the MC-14 or 1200mm with the MC-20 while retaining autofocus. The 1.4m minimum focus is remarkable for the focal length and makes it genuinely usable for larger insects and small subjects at close range as well as distant ones.

How much reach does this actually give me?
The 2x crop factor of Micro Four Thirds makes it equivalent to a 600mm lens on full frame. With the MC-14 that becomes 840mm equivalent, and with the MC-20, 1200mm equivalent - while still being handholdable.
Can I handhold it?
Yes, and that is the point of the lens. At 1270g with up to 6 stops of Sync IS stabilisation, handheld shooting is normal rather than exceptional - unlike a full-frame 600mm f/4, which is several times the weight and price.
