At a glance: OM System OM-1 - 20.4MP stacked-sensor MFT flagship, 1053-point AF, 120fps burst, IP53 sealed.
About this camera
The OM System OM-1 is the 2022 flagship that reset expectations for Micro Four Thirds - a 20.4MP stacked BSI Live MOS sensor with quad-pixel autofocus, 1053 cross-type points, and burst rates up to 120fps. The stacked sensor and TruePic X processor brought a substantial improvement in autofocus reliability and high-ISO performance over the E-M1 series, in a body rated to IP53 weather sealing.

Works with
- All Micro Four Thirds lenses - OM System, Olympus and Panasonic
- MC-14 and MC-20 teleconverters on supported PRO telephoto lenses
- HLD-10 vertical battery grip
- BLX-1 battery (new to the OM-1 - not the E-M1 series BLH-1)
Best for
The strongest argument for Micro Four Thirds as a wildlife and birding system - subject-detection autofocus that genuinely tracks birds in flight, up to 8 stops of stabilisation, and a 2x crop that makes long lenses reachable and portable. The formal IP53 rating means it is built for sustained work in rain and dust rather than merely resisting it. Pairs naturally with the PRO telephoto range and the MC-14 and MC-20 teleconverters.
Frequently asked questions
Does it take the same batteries as the E-M1 Mark II or III?
No. The OM-1 uses the larger BLX-1. The BLH-1 from the E-M1 series will not fit, so budget for new spares if you are upgrading.
Is it still branded Olympus?
The camera is branded OM System, the name adopted after Olympus's imaging division became OM Digital Solutions. It is fully compatible with existing Olympus Micro Four Thirds lenses and accessories - only the badge changed.
