This is a close-up and macro lens aimed at photographers who want to shoot small subjects at full life size on a DX (APS-C) Nikon DSLR, from flowers and insects to product and hobby detail shots. On a DX body its 40mm focal length gives an angle of view roughly equivalent to a 60mm standard lens, so it also works well as a compact everyday and portrait prime. Bear in mind that at 1:1 the working distance between the front of the lens and the subject is very short, which can make lighting live subjects tricky. It can also be used on Nikon Z mirrorless bodies via the FTZ mount adapter.
