The details

At a glance: Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS - standard tele-zoom for X-mount APS-C, stabilised, LM silent AF.

About this lens

The Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS is Fujifilm's standard telephoto zoom for X-mount APS-C - 83-300mm full-frame equivalent. LM linear-motor autofocus, OIS stabilisation, and a relatively bright variable aperture make it the natural tele-zoom pairing with the 18-55mm kit zoom.

Build & handling

Sensor coverage APS-C
Autofocus LM (linear motor) - fast, silent
Image stabilisation Yes - OIS, up to 4.5 stops
Weather resistance No
Minimum focus distance 1.1m
Filter thread 62mm
Weight 580g
Construction ED + Super ED glass, all-metal barrel with aperture ring

Works with

  • Fujifilm X-mount mirrorless APS-C bodies (X-T5, X-T4, X-H2, X-H2S, X-S20, X-E4, X-Pro3, etc.)
  • Not designed for Fujifilm GFX medium format (different mount)

Best for

The everyday tele-zoom for X-mount APS-C users - 83-300mm equivalent covers short-telephoto portraits through to sports/wildlife reach. OIS makes the long end hand-holdable, and the f/4.8 at 200mm is brighter than the cheaper XC 50-230mm's f/6.7. A practical working tele-zoom for X-T series users.

Frequently asked questions

Does this lens have image stabilisation?

Yes - OIS, up to 4.5 stops.

How does it compare to the XF 70-300mm?

The 70-300 goes further (300mm = 450mm-equivalent vs 55-200's 300mm-equivalent max), is weather-sealed, and supports Fujifilm's teleconverters. The 55-200 is brighter at the short end, covers more short-tele range (55mm vs 70mm start), and is typically more affordable used.

  • A proper little treasure trove

3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
