How does this compare to West German Zeiss?
Carl Zeiss Jena (East German) lenses were manufactured separately from Carl Zeiss West Germany after WWII. Both are technically 'Zeiss'. CZJ lenses are often more affordable and have their own characterful rendering. For collectors the distinction matters; for photographers both produce excellent images.
