Note that EF-M is a discontinued mount - Canon's current mirrorless line is RF/RF-S - so treat this as a self-contained kit rather than a system to invest in long term. EF and EF-S lenses can be used with the Canon EF-EOS M adapter.
Frequently asked questions
Is it a problem that EF-M is discontinued?
For using the camera, no - it works exactly as it always did and used EF-M lenses are widely available and often good value. It matters if you plan to keep buying new lenses, since Canon has moved development to the RF mount. Many buyers treat an M5 kit as an affordable, capable second body or travel camera.
Can I fit my existing EF lenses?
Yes, with Canon's EF-EOS M adapter, and autofocus and stabilisation work normally. Bear in mind a full-size EF lens on a small M body is front-heavy, and the APS-C sensor applies a 1.6x crop to the field of view.
