At a glance: Canon EOS-1D X - 18.1MP full-frame professional flagship DSLR, 12fps, 61-point AF, fully weather-sealed.
About this camera
The Canon EOS-1D X is Canon's 2012 professional flagship DSLR and the model that unified their previous split between high-speed APS-H and high-resolution full-frame 1-series bodies. An 18.1MP full-frame sensor paired with dual DIGIC 5+ processors delivered 12fps mechanical shooting (14fps with mirror locked up) in a magnesium-alloy body sealed to Canon's highest standard.

Works with

- LP-E4N battery
- Dual CompactFlash UDMA 7 cards
Best for
A professional sports, press and wildlife body built for reliability above all - integrated vertical grip, huge battery life, and the durability expected of a 1-series Canon. Low pixel count by modern standards, but 18MP full-frame remains ample for press and sports use and gives excellent high-ISO performance with large photosites. Note it uses CompactFlash rather than CFexpress or SD, so factor in cards.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use EF-S lenses on it?
No. EF-S lenses are designed for APS-C bodies and their rear elements protrude far enough to foul a full-frame mirror. Only EF lenses will mount.
Is 18 megapixels enough?
For sports, press and event work, comfortably - it was the professional standard for years, and the larger photosites give excellent low-light performance. If you need to crop heavily or print very large, a higher-resolution body would suit better.
What memory cards does it take?
Two CompactFlash slots (UDMA 7). It predates CFexpress and does not have an SD slot, so you will need CF cards and a compatible reader.
