About this lens
The Sony E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS is Sony's compact APS-C 'power zoom' kit lens for E-mount. Collapses to a pancake-thin profile when not in use, expanding to full zoom when powered on. Widely bundled with Sony APS-C bodies. OSS stabilisation, silent AF, power zoom for video.
Build & handling
| Sensor coverage | APS-C |
|---|---|
| Autofocus | Internal stepping motor (silent) |
| Image stabilisation | Yes - OSS |
| Minimum focus distance | 0.25m (wide) / 0.30m (tele) |
| Filter thread | 40.5mm |
| Weight | 116g |
| Construction | Retractable (PZ - power zoom) design, plastic barrel |
Works with
- Sony E-mount APS-C mirrorless (A6x00 series, ZV-E10, NEX series)
- Not designed for Sony FE full-frame (APS-C crop mode only)
Best for
A standard APS-C kit zoom designed for compact travel - retracts to a pancake form when off, making Sony's APS-C bodies genuinely pocketable. The PZ (power zoom) lever is useful for smooth video zooms. OSS stabilisation helps at the long end.
Frequently asked questions
What is 'PZ' and is power-zoom useful for photos?
PZ = Power Zoom - an electric motor drives the zoom smoothly, controlled by the zoom rocker. Primarily useful for video where you want slow, precise zooms. For photography you can still zoom manually via the rocker, though it's less direct than a mechanical zoom ring.
Does this lens have image stabilisation?
Yes - OSS.
Why buy from Bass & Bligh
Bought from a real shop, not a warehouse.
Dispatched on the Monday… great service
Ordered a Panasonic four thirds lens dispatched on the Monday after purchase and delivered on the following Tuesday great service. Tried on the camera and initial thoughts are wow pin sharp and clear photos. Thank you
George P.Ordered a lens onlineA proper little treasure trove
3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
Philip B.Third visit to the shopBrilliant advice with awesome customer service
