The details

At a glance: Sigma EX 14mm f/2.8 HSM - fast ultra-wide prime for Nikon FX full-frame, astro-friendly.

About this lens

The Sigma EX 14mm f/2.8 HSM is Sigma's fast full-frame ultra-wide prime for Nikon F-mount. A specialised 14mm rectilinear (non-fisheye) prime - one of the widest fast primes available for full-frame DSLRs, with genuinely dramatic wide-angle perspective and exceptional low-light capability.

Build & handling

Autofocus HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor)
Image stabilisation No
Minimum focus distance 0.18m
Filter thread None (bulbous front element)
Weight 520g
Construction SLD glass, aspherical elements, EX-series pro build

Works with

  • Nikon F-mount full-frame DSLRs (D750, D780, D810, D850, D6 and older)
  • Nikon F-mount APS-C DSLRs (acts as ~21mm equivalent)
  • Nikon Z mirrorless via FTZ/FTZ II adapter - AF preserved

Best for

A specialised ultra-wide prime for Nikon FX full-frame - f/2.8 at 14mm is rare and useful for architecture, interiors, astrophotography and dramatic landscape work. The 114° angle of view is dramatic. Like most ultra-wides with bulbous front elements, it can't take screw-in front filters.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use front filters with this lens?

No - the bulbous front element makes a standard screw-in filter impossible. Rear gelatin or specialist filter holders are the workaround.

Is this good for astrophotography?

Yes - f/2.8 at 14mm on full-frame is a strong astro/landscape-astro combination, with a wide field of view for capturing the night sky.

Does this lens have image stabilisation?

No — this lens does not have image stabilisation.

  • A proper little treasure trove

3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
