The details
At a glance: Sigma 12-24mm EX DG HSM - extreme ultra-wide rectilinear zoom for Canon EF full-frame.
About this lens
The Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM is Sigma's full-frame ultra-wide zoom for Canon EF - one of the widest rectilinear (non-fisheye) zooms available for full-frame DSLRs at the time of its release. 12mm on full-frame gives genuinely dramatic wide-angle perspective for architecture, interiors and landscape.
Build & handling
| Autofocus | HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) |
|---|---|
| Image stabilisation | No |
| Minimum focus distance | 0.28m |
| Filter thread | None (bulbous front element) |
| Weight | 600g |
| Construction | SLD glass, aspherical elements, bulbous non-removable lens hood |
Works with
- Canon EF-mount full-frame DSLRs (5D series, 6D, 1D series)
- Canon EF-mount APS-C DSLRs (acts as ~19-38mm equivalent)
- Canon RF mirrorless via EF-EOS R adapter - AF preserved
Best for
A serious ultra-wide zoom for Canon full-frame EF DSLRs. At 12mm on full-frame, the angle of view is roughly 122° - notably wider than typical 14mm or 16mm primes. The bulbous front element means no front filters; use rear gelatin or a specialist filter holder. On APS-C it becomes a more conventional 19-38mm ultra-wide.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use front filters with this lens?
No - the bulbous front element makes a standard screw-in filter impossible. Rear gelatin filter holder or specialist 150mm-class square filter systems are the workaround options.
Does this lens have image stabilisation?
No — this lens does not have image stabilisation.
Will it work on Canon RF mirrorless bodies?
Yes, via the Canon EF-EOS R adapter. Autofocus and IS are preserved, and the lens functions normally on R, R5, R6, R7, R8, R50 and other RF bodies.
Why buy from Bass & Bligh
Bought from a real shop, not a warehouse.

George P.Ordered a lens onlineA proper little treasure trove
3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
Philip B.Third visit to the shopBrilliant advice with awesome customer service
Sure you can buy online and possibly save a few pounds.. but if you require and appreciate knowledge and brilliant advice with awesome customer service then it's a no brainer...This is a real camera shop like it used to be back int day..
