About this lens
The Samyang 85mm f/1.4 AS IF UMC is a manual-focus portrait prime for Canon EF. Samyang (also sold as Rokinon/Bower) is known for delivering pro-grade optical performance at much lower cost than first-party equivalents, trading autofocus and metering automation for price. A characterful 85mm f/1.4.

Works with
- Canon EF-mount full-frame DSLRs (5D series, 6D, 1D series)
- Canon EF-mount APS-C DSLRs (acts as ~127mm equivalent)
- Canon RF mirrorless via EF-EOS R adapter (manual focus retained)
Best for
A cost-effective manual-focus 85mm f/1.4 portrait prime. The 85mm focal length is classic for portraits on full-frame (flattering perspective, natural subject isolation), and f/1.4 gives shallow depth of field. Manual focus requires a deliberate shooting style - best suited to portraits, product and deliberate work rather than fast-moving subjects.
Frequently asked questions
Does it autofocus?
No. This is a manual-focus lens. Focus confirmation via the Canon body's focus-confirm dots may work on chipped variants but there's no AF motor.
Is this a good portrait lens?
Yes - 85mm on full-frame is a classic portrait focal length. The f/1.4 aperture delivers very shallow depth-of-field and strong subject-background separation. Manual-focus-only means it's best for deliberate, non-action portrait work.
Does this lens have image stabilisation?
No — this lens does not have image stabilisation.
Will it work on Canon RF mirrorless bodies?
Yes, via the Canon EF-EOS R adapter. Autofocus and IS are preserved, and the lens functions normally on R, R5, R6, R7, R8, R50 and other RF bodies.
Why buy from Bass & Bligh
Bought from a real shop, not a warehouse.

George P.Ordered a lens onlineA proper little treasure trove
3rd time I've been to this shop to treat myself to some new kit. Always very friendly and knowledgeable. Fairly priced too. I would highly recommend a visit if your nearby and looking for camera gear. I'd say if they don't have what your looking for, it's probably not possible to find anywhere. It's a proper little treasure trove.
Philip B.Third visit to the shopBrilliant advice with awesome customer service
