About this camera
The Olympus PEN-F is a 2016 rangefinder-styled Micro Four Thirds body and the most design-led camera Olympus made in the digital era, reviving the name of their 1963 half-frame film SLR. A 20.3MP sensor, 5-axis in-body stabilisation and an all-metal body are wrapped in a machined retro design, with a distinctive front creative dial for monochrome and colour profiles.

Best for
A camera bought as much for the handling and the object itself as the specification - the machined metal body and front creative dial make it a favourite for street and travel photography. The monochrome profiles are genuinely well implemented, letting you shape grain and contrast in-camera. Note it is not weather-sealed, unlike the OM-D line, and it was never replaced, which has kept used demand strong.
Frequently asked questions
Is the PEN-F weather-sealed?
No. Unlike the OM-D E-M1 and E-M5 lines, the PEN-F has no weather sealing, so it needs more care in rain and dust despite the metal body.
What does the front creative dial do?
It gives direct access to four modes - monochrome profiles, colour profiles, art filters and colour creator - letting you shape the look in-camera rather than in editing. The monochrome profiles in particular are a large part of the camera's appeal.
