At a glance: Olympus M.Zuiko ED 17mm f1.2 PRO - fast weather-sealed 34mm-equivalent prime for Micro Four Thirds.

About this lens

The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm f1.2 PRO is a fast wide-angle prime for Micro Four Thirds - 34mm equivalent, f/1.2 maximum aperture, and the weather-sealed PRO-series build with Olympus's "feathered bokeh" optical design.

Build & handling

Maximum aperture f/1.2
Autofocus Yes - MSC
Weather sealing Yes - dust, splash and freeze-proof
Minimum focus Approx. 20cm
Filter thread 62mm
Weight Approx. 390g

Works with

  • All Micro Four Thirds bodies (Olympus / OM System, Panasonic Lumix G)
  • 62mm filters
  • Weather sealing is fullest on a sealed PRO/OM-D body

Best for

A reportage and documentary lens - the 34mm equivalent field of view is the classic street and environmental-portrait focal length, and f/1.2 buys both low-light capability and unusually shallow depth of field for the format. The PRO sealing makes it a genuine all-weather lens. Heavier and dearer than the 17mm f/1.8, which is the lighter everyday alternative.

Frequently asked questions

Is f/1.2 on Micro Four Thirds like f/1.2 on full frame?

For exposure, yes - f/1.2 is f/1.2 and gathers the same light. For depth of field, the smaller sensor means the blur is closer to what an f/2.4 lens gives on full frame. You still get very usable subject separation, and the low-light benefit is real.

Why choose this over the 17mm f/1.8?

The PRO adds weather sealing, noticeably better corner sharpness wide open, and the smoother out-of-focus rendering Olympus calls feathered bokeh. The f/1.8 is around half the weight and much cheaper - a better walkaround lens if you do not need sealing.
