At a glance: Hasselblad XPan + 45mm f/4 - cult panoramic 35mm film rangefinder, dual-format 24x36/24x65.

About this lens

The Hasselblad XPan + 45mm f/4 lens is Hasselblad's 1998 panoramic 35mm film rangefinder camera - shoots either standard 24x36mm frames OR dramatic 24x65mm panoramic frames (approximately twice the width of a standard 35mm frame). Bundled with the standard 45mm f/4 lens. One of the most celebrated panoramic film cameras ever made.

Best for

A cult-classic panoramic film camera - the XPan lets you switch between standard 35mm frames and dramatic 24x65mm panoramic frames mid-roll. The 45mm f/4 lens acts as a wide-ish standard for standard frames and a wider perspective for panoramic shooting. Discontinued in 2006; used prices have risen dramatically. A favourite for landscape and travel panoramic work.

Frequently asked questions

What's the panoramic format's aspect ratio?

24x65mm - approximately 2.7:1 aspect ratio, dramatically wider than standard 35mm (1.5:1). A 24x65mm panoramic frame uses about 1.8x as much film per exposure as a standard 24x36mm frame, so you get fewer panoramic exposures per roll.

Can I switch formats mid-roll?

Yes - the XPan lets you switch between standard and panoramic modes between any two frames. Useful for shooting one scene standard and the next panoramic, depending on what the subject calls for.
